Equipment tracker

I continue to track gear by entering shoe information in the description field of my GC activities. When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.
  • I don't get why people want to track shoes by time or distance.
My mates and i do it by feel.

Simple explanation; not everyone wants to wait until the shoe is broken down to replace it. Other people may not be as attuned to their shoes as you are. Probably some other reasons such as rotating between two or three pairs of shoes.

As for some doofus running in a shoe with the toes worn out, how is that relevant? He could just as well have said "they still feel fine, why should I replace them!?" :D
  • I would very much like to see equipment tracking be a part of the new Garmin Connect (shoes, etc.)

    +1

can't believe this thread is 4 years old and this feature STILL isn't implemented
  • If you have any doubt that Garmin is in need of a management change and a re-focus on their customers and communication with their customers, read this thread. 4 years and NOTHING at all. Garmin, if you do not plan to implement, ok. Just be transparent.

If there was only a way in this social-media driven world to communicate and LISTEN to your customers...

I reckon Garmin Connect has improved massively in the years I've been using it... but I'd still like to be able to track my gear, running shoes & bikes that is.
  • The reason for tracking shoes is not necessarily to see when they are worn out - as you say you should know by feel and observation. It is useful from an injury point of view - you may find that when you up your mileage in a particular pair of shoes that you get injured or you may find that you start to get aches and pains using a particular set of shoes after they have done xxx miles - even though they may look and feel ok. In addition you may find that performance is different in different shoes - like anything else in sport if you haven't got the data you can't use it
  • I track my usage so that I can see if a pair of shoes is wearing out quickly or not: for example my current Adidas Tempos have fared far worse than the previous model to an extent that I'm thinking about changing manufacturer. The same thing applies to backpacks too. I am mystified by Garmin's reluctance to add the feature to connect. If they do I'll switch from SportTracks but I can't see why I should have to take a feature downgrade to switch. I'm in agreement with everybody else that Garmin's lack of feedback is a pretty poor effort.
