Equipment tracker

I continue to track gear by entering shoe information in the description field of my GC activities. When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.
  • Simple trick to track gear usage in Garmin Connect is to add the name of the gear e.g. model of the shoes to the activity name, then you can filter out the activities with the name included and you have the summary for the distance and time. :D

I do this but I don't think the reporting is easy...I'd like to hear how you do it because the only way I've found is to also add some text to the activity name so that you know when you changed shoes. This way you can find the last time you replaced your shoes. You can't run a report from this, now I have to go to the Activity page and filter by both activity name (all shoes with the model name) and date (when I started using the shoes). This will give me a multipage list of results with mileage. From there I have to cut/paste each page of results into excel to add up the mileage since export to csv doesn't work correctly.

All of this isn't difficult but it's certainly not quick and Garmin should provide this as part of Connect. I hope there's an easier way and I'd love to hear it...

    Equipment Tracking - Edge Series

The Edge series already allows you identify different bikes, but it appears to not be loaded into the ride details. If I have already identified my equipment based on a training/ride profile, then I shouldn't have to re-enter the same information to track or report on usage.

I've been waiting for years for this

Shoe tracking is a must. Please Garmin.

I've been keeping my shoe log on SportTracks but now Sporttracks doesn't support my new Garmin, so I'm back in the stone age with a spreadsheet for my shoes and Garmin Connect for everything else. I like Garmin so much I would like to buy stock in the company but the fact that they don't listen to their customers makes me worry that they will lose market share to companies that do.
  • You can enter equipment you use in workout description and then use THIS to manage it without exporting to spreadsheet.
Plus you get nice analyze tool. But, you're absolutely right, equipment tracking is a must have in Connect. Hopefully someone from Garmin is reading this.
