Can't upload to GC

Former Member
Former Member
I've tried and tried but for whatever reason I can't get my 305 to upload data into GC on a regular basis. I was able to do it just once at 3:00am but aside from that no luck. Anyone have any suggestions. Motionbase was great and I very seldom had issues. Why are we reinventing the wheel here?
  • I misunderstood your post. Yes, all of my data is in Training Center. So that's good. I suppose I don't really need anything else but I'm a creture of habit and was accustomed to downloaded to Motionbased.

Check your version of Communicator. The fact that the upload is stalling out was a recurring issue in some older version of the communicator plugin. If you are up to date, you might try uninstalling it then reinstalling. If you can, it also might be a good test to try the upload on your neighbor's computer. If it works there, then at least you know there is no corrupt data on your device. Then you can focus in on the issue being your PC.

You have to uninstall GC Ant then rename or delete the directory

The new Garmin Connect "update" would not work with my 405cx. I kept getting a very brief transfer message then an error.

I uninstalled the Ant application through Control Panel just to discover that it never really uninstalled. The only way that I could fix the problem was to do the following: 1. Uninstall GC through Control Panel 2. Go to C:\Garmin and rename the folder "Ant Agent" to something else like "Ant Agent_Old". (That way you have your current files if this doesn't work for you.) 3. Run the install for an older copy of Ant Agent. (I used a previous download that I still had on my hard drive. GarminAntwithTrainingCenter_221). I don't know if it made any difference, but during my troubleshooting, I did download the newest communicator plugin and install it. I then uninstalled it prior to the steps above. I am having the same problem with GC on my MAC but I haven't gotten it fixed yet. I'm not that familiar with the MAC.

Also having this problem on three separate machines, two XP, one Vista with a Nuvi and with an eTrex legend. The page just sits at "Reading activities from (whichever GPS happens to be plugged in)" indefinitely.

For the record, Motionbased site still works, thank goodness.

I'm using the tatest connect agent, and again this is on three different machines that MB works just fine on, so it's NOT an issue with my operating system(s), and I'm trying two different GPS units. I even went as far as to try a different USB cable.

Please extend MB's utility until you guys have this problem sorted out. I paid $100 a year for a pro motionbased subscription, and without MB still being active it would be a complete waste of money.

This was posted on the MB Forum. This would apply to your Nuvi and eTrex legend:

There are many of you with hand held and outdoor devices still using MotionBased. You will continue to use MotionBased until we offer support at Garmin Connect for your device. If you have not already started using the Garmin Communicator Plugin to upload from your hand held or outdoor device you will need to start doing so at this time. The MotionBased Agent has officially been-end-of-lifed and replaced by the Garmin Communicator Plugin.

    1. Download and install the Garmin Communicator Plugin
    Windows
    Mac
    2. Login to your MotionBased account
    3. From the Digest View, click "Upload"
    4. Plug in your device
    5. The Communicator will detect your device
    6. Click "Upload"
    7. The upload will take about a minute to go through the process and put the activity into your Inbox

We'll keep you posted and let you know when Garmin Connect supports your device.

So basically, just keep using MB until GC catches up, correct?

(I'm obviously well aware of the process of uploading tracks to MB. ;) )

Reading Activities from Device, Please Wait

When I try to upload my activities, Garmin Connect immediately goes to a page similar to the uploading page (with the percent complete bar at the bottom), but instead of showing that it is uploading, it says, "Reading Activities From Device, Please Wait" but nothing ever happens. No other messages come up, no activities get uploaded. It just hangs there.

I uploaded two activities Sunday morning, after having different upload problems on Saturday. Went out for a run, came back and tried to upload and started getting this new "Reading Activities" message, with no luck uploading anything.

    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue. I tried Firefox and IE, both sit there with "Reading activities from zumo 450". I've shutdown all programs running in the systray...Ideas?

    Possible answer

I may have found a clue that worked for me on one file. I had some files that uploaded and others that didn't. So I looked at differences beyond the actual data and found a node at the end of the XML that in one file was missing a value in the <Name> attribute. I put in the proper value such as below and the file imported fine. I will try on others...

"Forerunner305" was missing in the text below.

I think you may be on to something here. Without going crazy can you explain how to open a file in XML. I was able to do it once but since then have had no luck. I know you need an XML editor but aside from that I'm clueless. Thanks.
