Hi, in going in to compare times with runs/cycles from 2008 I cannot run the player with Time as a base. Why has that data been lost? Thnaks - David

    Hi David,

My guess is that you've uploaded the activities from your device and they have not been migrated from MB. The old activities on your device have been compressed and are now missing the GPS data that was necessary for upload to MB. This GPS data is not necessary for uploading to GC so the summary data has uploaded. Best thing to do is to delete those compressed activities from Garmin Connect and wait for the migration to do its thing.

Hi, thanks for replying and apology for not responding. I have been trying (without any luck) via the phone support to get this resolved. All of my data is public so feel free to jump on and look at what I am describing. Garmin said "no chance" when I finally got someone to listen. Then once I walked them through it they said "oops". That is as far as I got. This is a rolling problem. All data uploads normally (I have never used MB), then after one year Garmin wipe the time based data. You go into player and run the event. If you use Distance as the base you can see the elevation and heartrate. Forget it if you want to use Time as the base. You see nothing. So, you cannot comapre performance between the same annual events.

Look at these two events if it helps.

Garmin has stolen data and I want it back. Data theft is a major crime!

I highly doubt Garmin wanted your activity badly enough to keep for itself. The problem is not data theft but your lack of maintaining backups of your own important data.

    Hi Steve,

thanks for the response. Did you look at the events to understand the issue? The issue is not ME backing up MY data. Garmin hold the data in MyConnect. I access the data by logging onto MyConnect. Garmin is the custodian of my PERSONAL data (which I gladly make public for anyone whom may have an interest). The sharing of that data with friends and like minded folks is what makes the device and the whole Garmin idea so great. Based on me buying one then I know of at least 4 others who joined in and we all look at each others data. Now I am warning these self same people that their data will last but one year, after that forget trying to compare times.

I do have all of my data backed up and have it in TC. Even if you were to upload it again (can you do that?) then Garmin will strip off the time based data as it is a date based issue. In August I could see the Sept 08 data, in Sept after the '09 event I could not see the '08 event. Go look at any of my events from Dec1 onwards and you'll see all of the data. Go back and look in January 2010 and you'll see no time based data.

Theft is the unauthorised removal of property. Data is property ......

Now, how do we get this fixed? I can't be the only one whom is afflicted by this.

    Thanks,

    David
  • Are you sure this isn't a technical problem? Admittedly, I can't think of a plausible reason why this would be happening to you, but this problem isn't happening to me. I checked some of my workouts, some as old as two years old, both biking and running, and both migrated from MB and some manually imported tcx files, and I can see the time data for all those that I checked.

I do remember when GC first came out, there was some funny behavior with the time or distance scale (I can't remember which) in the player, and they fixed it, so maybe there's a technical reason for your problem, and maybe it's connected to your browser. As I said, I don't have any specific ideas about what's causing your problem, but you might a) try clearing your cache (this has cleared up some funny GC behavior in the past); and b) try using a different browser. For the record, I'm using Mac OS 10.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4.

    Thanks HTH,

is not to do with PC or Browser. I have tried on 3 different types of PC and 3 different browsers. All show the same result. I have never used MB. Bought my 405 in July 2008 and have only ever uploaded to GC. Love it to bits but am now so disappointed not to be able to compare performances a year later. I know this is a Garmin issue as the problem rolls forward as the calendar rolls forward.

When I first got the 405 there were major problems uploading data, which Garmin denied, then a mystery patch came out just as I was about to chuck it in the bucket. All had been well after that until the 12 month clock struck midnight!

    What device are you using?

If only someone from Garmin would get in touch. That is all I really ask for ..... real honest to goodness Customer Support. If only their s/ware was as clean as their cycling team!

    Thanks,

    David
  • OK, maybe you're right. I've only been using GC since June or so. Before that I used Ascent, and continue to use Ascent (and continue to use for redundancy).

BTW, HTH = hope this helps.

  • Actually, I figured you were a young'un. HTH dates back to the usenet days. I doubt that anyone under 25 even knows what that is.
