Activity manually entered not showing heart rate or steps

Hi all, new to Garmin (coming from Fitbit). I have logged an activity manually, set date, starting time and duration. No stats are appearing against the activity, like steps, heart rate, intensity minutes. What I found most annoying is that, when logging the activity, there is a field where YOU can enter the average heart rate. Now, the tracker has this info (or should calculate that), why isn't do it itself? This is a pretty silly thing and I am a bit confused on why I was able to do it with Fitbit but not with Garmin. Thanks for your help

  • That is how it works. To get that data you must log it with your Garmin device. Everything with Garmin is about the devices and it is where all calculations happens.

  • Thanks e7andy,  I assume you cannot log manually the activity on the device on a later stage (I tried doing that but I couldn't find any option). I have now set 'other' under activities for the future so that I can run that I just need to remember to start the activity on my lily, but is it not a easy fix to have the app also running the calculation since all data is synced there showing stats, days and time?

  • Many calculations are based on HR and the app doesn't have that. If you are wearing the watch (but not logging) the app got some crude HR data and not good enough to be used in any calculations.

I also think that it is a business decision by Garmin. If everything is done on the devices then the users must buy their devices and use them.
