Manual Entry of Activities

I noticed that manual entry of activities was a feature in the "coming soon" section. Any idea on how soon?

Would love to start tracking swimming routines.

Thanks,
  • The next major release is scheduled for late August to early September. I suspect that most of these "coming soon" items will be available by that time.

Please add the ability to add multiple laps for manual entry. If I am running 400s or 800s I need to log multiple laps. Any suggestions/

Also, please add the ability to toggle between metric and imperial for certain activities. Track work for example would be metric (400m) while a short run would be imperial (miles).

A similar request was made for the swimmers here in another thread and one of the GC folks responded that this is in the works.

I'm guessing that if you are here you have a Garmin device. Why not set a workout to do that for you? For instance we have several workouts with different interval settings - 25x400m rest 300m, 30x400m rest 30secs for example, with a desired pace range to work within.
What we particularly like about that is that we don't have to run numerous times around a track. We have a reasonably flat area near us where we can run outside and avoid the boredom of 'track' work per se.
I can understand manual recording if you don't have a Garmin device, but remember, Garmin Connect, Garmin Training Centre are set up to extract information from Garmin devices used for training.

Good advice, PHILIPSHAMBROOK. It is possible, however, users may own units that do not work without a GPS signal, unit recorded a bum activity, or just plain forgot their unit but didn't want to have a blank in the training log. So a request with some merit even for garmin fitness product owners that would like this functionality to also be included in GC.

Actually, the request I made for swimming was being able to change the units from miles and kilometers to yards or meters. It really doesn't have anything to do with metric or imperial units. I swim in both yard and meter pools. Yards and meters are close enough so that I'd be satisfied if I had a choice of one or the other. However, I am not going to enter my 2,800 meter (or yard) workout as 2.8 km (or 1.59 miles).
  • Yes, I see your point (and agree) about not wanting to enter yards as x miles, but don't see any difference between 2,800 meters and 2.8 km. Regardless, and feel free to correct me if I'm misleading in my response, the point was a "similar" request had been made (wanting to be able to toggle the units based on an activity type) and the response was this was going to be addressed to account for different activities.

Point taken. I'd just do an aggregate time. I just could not see my way to manually enter the times for 30x 400s. Maybe I am not committed enough, but I'd just put it down as unfortunate and move on.
Anyway, if you are running around a track the lack of GPS is not necessarily a lost cause provided you still have the lap times. It's wandering around the countryside doing 400m intervals like we do where the lack of a GPS signal would be more painfull to bear. Would make it a little difficult to do 400m intervals without knowing how far to go.
The other opton of course is to manually enter the data into GTC (Windoze only I understand), export as .tcx and then upload that activity to GC.
Better still, the ability to upload activities direct to GC from GTC would be useful. I do this with a plugin in SportTracks that uploads selected activities into RunSaturday.com

Bit OT I suppose, but have you tried the latest version of GTC for the Mac? I thought it might have accounted for this.
