Distance over time graph (again)

Distance over time graph??? When is this going to happen, or has it happened and I can't see it? Of all the charts that could possibly be used to analyse a run, this one graph would show everything. Using the current method of switching between 'over time' or 'over distance' it is impossible to accurately marry up distances and times at a point. It should be very simple to do as all the data is there, just plot it!

  • TL;DR there's two 3rd party websites that can do this:

    - export FIT file and view it with https://www.fitfileviewer.com/

    - use https://www.runalyze.com for activities which have power data

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but there's an external website that can graph distance vs. time for a Garmin activity FIT file.

    - Open the Garmin Connect website: https://connect.garmin.com/

    - Navigate to your activity

    - Select the gear icon in the top-right hand corner, and select Export File. This will download a ZIP file containing the activity in its original format. For all but very old Garmins, this will be a FIT file

    - Open https://www.fitfileviewer.com/

    - Click Open FIT File and select the previously downloaded activity ZIP file

    - Click on the chart button

    - Select Distance for one of the chart fields

Now time will be on the x-axis and distance will be on the y-axis, and you can roll over the graph with your mouse to see the distance at any given point in time. Distance is in metres, to two decimal places, and time has per-second granularity, assuming you have per-second recording enabled on your watch.

I also like to use https://www.runalyze.com, a free site that syncs with your Connect account. You can use that to view your Connect activities and temporarily chop them up into laps of arbitrary time or distance, which is kinda similar, but not exactly the same, as what you're asking for. Using that feature I can see my stats for arbitrary chunks of the activity, it's just not convenient to select an exact point in time.

In runalyze, you can also roll over the power chart and see distance in km - with two decimal places - for any given point in time. For some reason rolling over the graph to see distance is only available on the power chart, so it'll only work for activities that have power, including power from Stryd. You may have to change the activity view settings to enable the "plots: use time as x-axis" option.

  • Also, I hate to say this, but Garmin probably won't read this post. The "official" place to send feature requests is the Garmin Ideas page: www.garmin.com/.../

(Unfortunately no other Garmin users can see what you post there, and Garmin is guaranteed not to reply to you.)

  • Thanks for the reply, fitfileviewer worked and does offer something I am after. Will just have to use it side by side with Garmin to complete the picture of training sessions.
