How about we get all the features back that we had on Motionbased. Let's start there and then add new features. I still have no weather. Difficult to see elevation vs. heart rate. Google Earth, seems like i am using an alpha program.
  • Many of us have paid for features that WERE available on motionbased.

I agree the starting point should be ALL of the features that were available there.

It will be interesting to see when connect is to be a paid for service, as I have already been given a date when my current subscription runs out!

    Answers Question

Weather is already in the works, as are improved analysis tools. Google Earth is already available. From the details page select Export, then Google Earth. This export will be made more prominent with a future release.

Listen, I want Garmin Connect to be successful. It is a half baked product at this point. It reminds me of Microsoft Vista when it was released. I am a paid subscriber so it is not like I am complaining about a free service.

kk -- I've expressed this sentiment before, but with the new forum I'll say it again.

Garmin has a bad habit of putting out a new status update every two-three months (despite the what's new page saying it will be updated monthly), and between those two, there is a news embargo, apparently. While giving more information more frequently won't affect the delivery schedule, it would do a lot to reduce tension among the riff-raff out here in user land. Often times people in the forums raise their blood pressure and raise their voices since questions and suggestion *seem* to fall on deaf ears.

Your simple act of acknowledging the requests and dropping a bit of status which isn't on the two month old status page (the bit about weather service isn't mentioned there) will help cool tempers.

I hope your Garmin overlords allow you do it more often.

    Thanks.

Agree!!! I'd like to see all the options availble in MB in Garmin connect before they pull the plug on MB. How about moving speed and pace.

Garmin Connect has a LONG way to go. I'm very disappointed :(:(

Gravity is really the only reason I pay for Motionbased, I'd be too embarrassed at the inaccuracy of the data to share it with anyone else otherwise given the widespread Luddism about GPS and running. Without an elevation correction function Connect is not a credible product and should not have been launched without it.
It seems like a backward step but taking a screenshot of the elevation profile (corrected) in Sporttracks and mailing it to people is my proposed solution once Motionbased is closed for upload.
Poor decision making I'm afraid, I've sat in too many meetings where people who don't understand the basics try to make decisions based on what they think the customer wants.

    Let MotionBase live on.....

I completely agree, Gravity is a MUST. To not have this feature available immediately is a huge mistake. BTW any upcoming "algorithm" to smooth out elevation data in GC, as described in a FAQ I read somehwere, wont work. If you start with bad elevation data and massage it, its still bad data that just looks better. The beauty of Gravity is that you could use the accurate GPS data to replace the inaccurate elevation data. Why would you change something that works so well with something inferior? As far as I'm concerned GC is not ready for primetime until Gravity is available.

I've been looking through the forums and I can't find out why MotionBased is being shut down, It is a perfectly good app, that does everything I need. Does anybody know?

Yep, we are moving backwards with GC. I completely agree. Less features, less info, slower website.

Maybe that's Garmin's corporate definition of progress? Instead of spending money sponsoring a "Le Tour De France" team, (that was also lacking compared to others), how about at least spending enough to get a decent website that's a step-up, or at least equal to what Motion Based provided. Is that asking too much?

See my link from yesterday, on a similar "missing" item of relevance.

I also was a paying customer for Motion Based. Very disappointed with GC.
  • I continue to track gear by entering shoe information in the description field of my GC activities. When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.
