How to view barometric pressure recorded by device?

For devices with built in barometric pressure sensor, such as Edge 530, how can the barometric pressure data be viewed?  The data is there, how can it be viewed?

Unfortunately, Garmin Connect only shows "elevation."  And then, Garmin Connect only shows "elevation" when there is associated GPS data.  So elevation is not shown for "indoor" activities when GPS is turned off.

Barometric pressure is extremely important for track cycling.  It would be incredibly awesome of Garmin if they showed barometric pressure instead of "elevation" for track cycling type activities.  Nerd

Any suggestions for a Connect IQ data field which does this?

For track cycling it would be perfectly acceptable to plot baro along with elevation, since there is essentially no elevation change on a velodrome. ;)

  • The pressure sensor measures the ambient pressure and is unable to tell whether the pressure change was caused by an elevation change, or by the atmospheric pressure change. For this reason, the sensor is locked into the Altimeter mode, during outdoor activities, and has to consider the atmospheric pressure constant, in order that it can record the elevation profile.

To eliminate the errors caused by the atmospheric pressure variations, you either have to calibrate the altimeter regularly during the ride, or you have to enable the continuous calibration during activity, though that's available only on some models with built-in maps, and I do not think it is available on Edge 530.

Most Garmin watches show the barometric pressure history for the last 6 / 12 / 24 / or 48 hours directly on the device, on the ABC screen. Again, I do not think it is available on Edge 530, at least I do not see any note about it in the manual, and do not own the device.

  • Yes, I know the built in sensor measures ambient pressure.  That's exactly the data I want to view!  Elevation is irrelevant for track cycling activities as there is no elevation change!

The device records the raw data, how can it be viewed?

You'd need to lock the sensor to the baro-only mode. Although it sounds logical that it should be locked to 'baro' mode automatically during a track ride, I do not know whether it is really the case on Edge 530. And if you tell that the activity already plots the elevation profile, then it is apparently not locked to the 'baro' mode.

Otherwise, I do have a CIQ data field app plotting the raw pressure for personal use, but I never published it. I bet there are many others in the CIQ store, though. If nothing else, the App Builder 5 written by  can certainly do it too.
