What does "Work Time" mean for activities listed on my home page?

I did about a half-hour stretching session, which I marked "yoga" because that's the closest choice in the GC app.  When I look on my home page, instead of a 29-minute activity, I see "2:25 Work Time".  When I open the activity, this 2:25 figure doesn't appear anywhere in the stats.  I've seen this often.  Does "Work Time" mean anything useful? Is there a way to make the actual activity time show instead?

  • Work time is the actual time spent doing the exercise, not including rest time.

In my weight training activity, it shows up under stats

Work Time + Rest Time = Total Time

  • So because I'm holding a stretch instead of moving, Garmin doesn't think I'm "working".  Got it - another metric I should ignore. (In my stats, only the total time shows under Timing.)

    I appreciate the reply.

  • In my case (using Instinct 2), the Yoga activity records always the Work Time identical to the Total Time, and hence the result on the home screen of the app is as expected (the full time of the session). It is the same in GC Web as well as in the phone app:

In this test, I pushed the Lap button 3 times, in order to mark three individual positions, but in another test I recorded the entire session without any Lap button pressing, and the result was identical, with Work Time equal to the Total Time.

And when I open the activity, the stats show only a single value, in Yoga activities. I get all three time values only at activities with integrated Rest intervals upon pushing the Lap button. For example Strength, or HIIT.

So if the Yoga activity on your watch model differs, and allows the Rests too, make sure you do not activate the rest intervals with the Lap button. Also review the settings of the Yoga profile, and check whether there is not an option for disabling the rests.

  • Because the FR45 only allows me to choose 6 activity types, I've been recording my stretches as "other" then changing them to "yoga" in the Connect app.  In light of this discussion, I've dropped "cardio" from the FR45 selections and added "yoga"; now I see the proper "work time" displayed on GC Web.  I rarely do anything I'd call cardio, and if I do, I guess "other" will convert to "cardio" better than it will to "yoga." Thanks!
