No longer possible to preview training plans on Garmin Connect Web while already participating in a plan

Today (12/9/24) it no longer seems possible to preview a training plan on Garmin Connect Web if already participating in a plan. This was possible yesterday and is very useful because it allows me to review and select a plan when nearing the end of my current plan. Does anybody know if / how a plan can now be reviewed if already in a plan? Garmin, if you are listening, please restore this feature since it is very useful and there seems little benefit in preventing users from previewing plans while they are in a plan.

  • Well, I have two plans active (one running and one cycling plan), and can still review another one, though all of them are self-guided plans. For reviewing an adaptable Garmin Coach plan, I would have to set it up first, which is indeed not possible, but I do not remember it ever was.

To work around it, create a separate dummy Garmin Connect account and review the other plan there. Use a different browser, in order to avoid having to permanently authenticate when changing the accounts.

  • Hi Trux,

Thank you for your reply. I currently have an active self-guided running plan and until today could view the other self-guided running plans but today I get a warning box saying that I have an active plan and will have to cancel it to proceed. This happens even if I try to view a self-guided cycling plan so I am unable to have a running and cycling plan as you have.

I've tried logging out and in again and the problem persists.

What you describe as what you see sounds exactly like the behaviour that I saw up until yesterday. I don't know why things should be different for me today as I don't believe I have changed anything at my end.

Thank you for the tip to get round this problem. I hope it doesn't occur for anybody else.

  • In case it is helpful to anybody, here is some additional information I have noticed:

    • Tested using Firefox and Edge - both behave the same.
    • I've tried logging out and in again and the problem persists.
    • There seem to be other, less significant changes: both active and "find a plan" now open as a summary with additional user actions required to display the full plan or list of plans.
  • Strange, I tested it with Opera and Chrome (though I do not believe the browser plays a role), on two different accounts, and in both cases I can still review other plans without problems.

These are my activated plans (just for the testing I activated 3 of them). BTW, the cycling plan is a true Coach Plan, so it works even in that case, you do not have to use only self-guided plans.

And this is then another plan on the Find a Plan tab that I can review:

  • Hi Trux,

Thank you for looking into this further. I have now tried Chrome & Opera (in addition to Firefox & Edge) and all give the same results. I have one active plan:

And if I try to view another self-guided plan through the "browse all plans" link on the "find a plan" page then I get the following message:

The same seems to happen whatever plan I choose.

As well as being different to how it behaved the day before yesterday, I don't think this can be the intended behaviour because the plan page includes a "sheduled plans" page which implies that it is expected that more than one plan can be viewed and selected as you can do.

Since you don't have the problem and nobody else has mentioned on this thread that they have the problem I can only imagine it is something to do with my environment but I can't work out what or how to get back to how it used to operate which is a bit annoying.

  • As I wrote, create a second dummy account, use it in a different browser than your main account, and test it there.

  • Hi Trux,

I have created a second account as you suggest and that works exactly like my main account used to work allowing me to have active plans and preview plans - just as things are working for you. I would like my main account to return to this way of working so I can schedule future training plans and maybe have multiple running at the same time. I have tried the four different browser types previously mentioned, logging out and back in and clearing the cookies for the site but none of these seem to help. I do not believe I have changed anything in my account settings and have reviewed them looking for likely candidates but not found anything that looks like it might restrict to a single active plan. It does look like it's something to do with my account - do you know how best to contact Garmin to ask about fixing this?

If it's any help I have also noticed that at the same time the problem started for me the "find a plan" page started opening with the following screen:

Whereas previously and with my new second account it opens with a screen showing all the plans:

This may not be related but the change seemed to occur at the same time as I stopped being able to preview plans which is quite a coincidence.

  • Did you add some device on the dummy account? If so, was it the same one as in the main account? The change may be coming because of some device-specific feature not available on all models (for example the Primary Race Widget or something similar).

do you know how best to contact Garmin to ask about fixing this?

I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com. Use the Phone or Chat options for an instant response. Email exchanges usually take a few days.

  • Thanks Trux, I'll try product support.
