How do I get credit for the step count accrued during my walk (Garmin Connect picked up my 2+ mile walk, but I only have 300 steps for the day)?

Hello,

I just noticed that after a full day, I only have ~300 steps. I even went for a 2.2 mile walk and the workout summary showed about 4000 steps, but they didn't show up under 'STEPS'. How can I get credit for those steps that I already took, and that Garmin Connect activity picked up on?

Thank you.

  • Do you see the number of steps in the activity in Garmin Connect? Did you see the step count on the watch or in a Connect IQ data field?

What does the average cadence say in the activity stats? That value multiplied with the time in minutes will tell you the number of steps you took during the activity.

The Garmin watches use watch movements to count steps. If the watch doesn't move it will not count steps. The step counter is also turned off for a number of activities like cycling, strength, kayaking... Full list: Why am I Not Gaining Steps During Certain Activities

Steps and activity data are synced to the cloud in separate files, so if the step count is missing in Garmin Connect, while present on the watch, then the syncing of the steps data failed. You can try syncing again, or better syncing over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express. If it does not help either, then it likely means the file with the Steps data was corrupted (for example because of a crash of the watch software) and already discarded. In that case the data is lost.

If the steps are not visible on the watch either, then that was already covered in 's answer.
