TACX CLOUD shut down: creating slope workouts in GARMIN CONNECT

Hello. I have been a TACX NEO owner (1 before, 2 now) since 2018, and a prolific user of the TACX CLOUD "create your own workouts" tool since then. Mainly using the slope option instead of the other ones. Today I discovered that the site is being dismantle and prompts you to use GARMIN CONNECT to create the workouts. By the way, deleting all the database you had on your profile dashboard (Why?). Sadly I found out that there is no "slope" option on the GARMIN CONNECT website/app. Is there any possibility to recover that feature?

Thank you.

  • Yes, it is a mystery to me as well why it is not possible to transfer the already created workouts from the Tacx Cloud to GC and make it accessible. Instead you have to create the same workouts again with this new bulky creator in GC.

  • Is there any possibility to recover that feature?

I am afraid, currently we do not have any such possibility. The only workarounds are finding a Course with the required elevation profile, and using the option "Follow Course" in the Bike Indoor activity profile submenu "Smart Trainer Options", or setting the grade manually in the same menu on your device.

I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com and reporting them the issue. It does not look like they are aware that the new workouts are still no good replacement for Tacx workouts. Use the Phone or Chat options for an instant response. Email exchanges usually take a few days.

  • I can confirm that there is no way to set the slope anymore via Garmin Connect. This is such a HUGE oversight. I want Garmin to fix this very soon as they are rendering my trainers useless.

  • Garmin does it again! Selling products at a premium price and providing ZERO service. The decision to close down the tacx cloud without providing a working alternative is a slap in the face to the customers who used the service to create structured workouts. At present if you want to ride your old workouts it is possible to re-ride those from your past rides. Does anyone know of an alternative software without all the gamification of whoosh and zwift? By the way, if you thought that creating structured workouts in Tacx cloud was challenging, then good luck with Garmin Connect.

  • Attention Garmin Mediator / Developer:   This recent transition from Tacx Cloud to Garmin connect is fine, but you cannot simply wipe every customers customised workouts?    People have invested huge amounts of time in creating these workouts.  And secondly, the graphic rich workout screen in Tacx Cloud was a very useful as you could easily see the overview of the workout when it included many reps of varying power and recovery reps/segments.    You can certainly keep the Garmin Connect method of but dont go backwards and remove the feature rich workout tool.  Just imagine trying to create and view a simple custom z5 workout with 10 x 30 sec efforts with 1x 30 sec recoveries with warm up and cool down, it would literally be pages of data / numbers, and not easy to visualise with the graphic overview we currently have with the Tacx Cloud display.  This needs addressing please.  Updating systems is fine, but please don't remove much needed tools.  Including everyones workouts, customer respect, we cant forget this.

  • I totally agree. We spent time creating plenty of workouts, but Garmin doesn't care and deleted all like we are nothing.

And slope is missing. All the others options are bullshi! WHERE IS SLOPE???

  • reached out many times, but not satisfying answer...

  • Hello Dr. Triax. I have noticed that on the Android Tacx app, a slope training has appeared recently, in the training section. My guess is that Garmin has moved forward a little too fast into the Garmin-Tacx integration, but I am pretty sure that they are working around.

    Let's be a little patient..

    All the best.

    Pierre

  • As of this week, you can’t ride your old activities anymore. This was a frustrating, but at least useable workaround. So all the old workouts are fully gone.

Now I see slope workouts are back, but only if you ride manually on the app. So if I want my old hill climbing workout, I have to run it manually while I’m riding-LIKE THE SPIN BIKE I REPLACED WITH THE TACX!

Garmin, this is not cool. One of the features I wanted when moving to a smart trainer was the ability to control my own resistance. This was a feature you offered when I bought the Tacx.

Not everybody wants to focus on solely on power zones. I want to simulate climbing and now I can’t do this anymore.

Please add a slope function to Garmin workouts or bring back the workout building function on the Tacx.

  • I informed Garmin of Garmin Connect’s absence of Slope Workout capability before they implemented the “integration”, so they knew about the gap but moved forward anyway. They didn’t care that they were eliminating one of the basic, fundamental functions of their smart trainers. Now, how many different ways do they need to hear how upset their customer base is before they get this fixed?
