Floor count discrepancy

Here is the Garmin Connect Web At a Glance Floors tile:  . When I click to see the details, here is the summary:  . My watch shows 9 Floors Climbed. Perplexingly, here is what I see in the Floors detail in the Garmin Connect iOS App:

Is this the appropriate place to provide feedback? It's not a big error, but why should they be different - isn't it the same data field?

Thanks.

  • Probably a cache problem. Sync the watch again, then force-reload the page (Ctrl-F5), or clear the browser cache.

  • Interesting idea. Thanks, I will try it next time I see a discrepancy on GC Web. But, given that the GC iOS app shows two different counts on the same screen (see above), where it shows 10 and 9 in two different places at the same time, I still suspect some other explanation might apply. Could be a cache issue on the Garmin server, if the previously synched value was later revised down by one floor for some reason.

  • Just to follow up, immediately after syncing, the At a Glance tile shows 33 Floors, while clicking to show details shows 32 Floors, even after Ctrl-F5. Again, the GC iOS app Floors detail shows 33 Floors in the circle and 32 Climbed below.

There is not always a discrepancy, but I am curious to know why there ever is.

  • My guess is that the watch keeps track of fractional floors and that Garmin Connect rounds it for some display fields but truncates it for others. But who knows why?

  • The daily elevation gain is actually kept in meters (or perhaps feet), and converted to floors (3m / floor), so it is well possible that the rounding differs in different places. I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com and sending them those screenshots.
