no tour in connect export

Yesterday I made an e-bike tour for about 4h, 350m elevation and 60km (maximum with my recumbent e-trike).

I started it as usual on my fenix 6 solar (fully loaded) and stopped it when being back.

While driving the fenix shows data as usual.

There are about 20 bike activities in my account and lots of hikings.

When finishing my tours they are always synced with Komoot.

This time nothing appeared on Komoot.

And when I tried to import the Connect export, the GPX file is empty, no tour, just headers and footers.

And in the Connect app and web no map is visible.

On all other tours, the map is there.

What happened?

  • Are you sure your watch had a GPS fix? Speed and distance data would come from the paired E-Bike, so it could be that it was not easily noticable that the watch was actually not connected to GPS. This would explain the missing track and map.

  • I haven't had any GPS fix problems for the last 150 activities.

After reading the manual I come to the conclusion, that the fenix6 is not made for longer bike tours. My tours below 50km all had maps in it, may be that's a limit.

  • I haven't had any GPS fix problems for the last 150 activities.

You can have GPS fix problems for a number of reasons - expired ephemeris data file, previous firmware update changing the data structure, data corruption,... I recommend hard-resetting the watch - sync, then press the Light button for some 30s till it completely shuts down (hold the button through the emergency alert, if it comes), wait little bit, and then restart. No worry, no data or settings will be lost with it. [more details]. Then start the watch and connect it over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express, delete the CPE file in the folder //GARMIN/RemoteSW/ on the watch, and then check for updates in Garmin Express.

After reading the manual I come to the conclusion, that the fenix6 is not made for longer bike tours.

    That's a wrong conclusion.

  • But you may be right, there is no single GPS coordinate in the fit-file.

This is a record with a map:

    Data,0,record,timestamp,"1087197009",s,position_lat,"848514121",semicircles,position_long,"306703837",semicircles,distance,"0.0",m,enhanced_speed,"0.0",m/s,enhanced_altitude,"299.79999999999995",m,cycle_length16,"0.0",m,heart_rate,"119",bpm,cadence,"0",rpm,temperature,"23",C,fractional_cadence,"0.0",rpm,unknown,"176",,unknown,"119"

and this the new one without

    Data,0,record,timestamp,"1090394817",s,distance,"22.64",m,enhanced_speed,"4.329",m/s,enhanced_altitude,"428.20000000000005",m,cycle_length16,"0.0",m,ebike_travel_range,"119",km,heart_rate,"111",bpm,cadence,"61",rpm,temperature,"29",C,fractional_cadence,"0.0",rpm,ebike_battery_level,"98",percent,ebike_assist_mode,"2",depends on sensor,ebike_assist_level_percent,"44",percent,unknown,"162",,unknown,"111"

    No position data.

How to see the GPS fix?

  • Thanks, I will try to reset.

And i am thinking of removing the activities on the watch. Will this have an effect on the Connect web and app?

Btw, I once used my Edge Explorer for hiking. That was a mistake, It's not made for hiking. I could use this, but I don't like a HRM surrounding me.

  • Will this have an effect on the Connect web and app?

    No

  • How to see the GPS fix?

I assume you don't have the pro model with maps, there you could see it easily on the map.

Sometimes settings get corrupted on their own. I would first go into the activity settings, set GPS to off, restart the watch and set it to your preferred setting (e.g.  GPS + Galileo) again. When you start an activity, before actually hitting the start button, you should see on the top of the screen a black field with an arch. When this arch is green, the watch aquired a GPS fix. Or you could add the data field that shows GPS signal strength. Both you can see on the picture in this post:

  • I don't have a Pro model, but even in this watch some menu points show map options.

I reduced the csv of the fit to the vectors, but I think, there is no easy way to map this to a gpx-track. This may be to much maths for me.

Since I am addicted to electronic gadgets and their results, it will take a while to forget this desaster.

And it will take a while until I trust this watch again.

But it may even had been a problem with the storage. There only had been 464kB free. I now removed the 2022 and 2023 activities.

Thanks for reading my posts and helping me.
