Copying steps or repeats within a workout or between workouts, and sharing workouts?

Is there a way to copy steps, or copy repeats when creating or editing a workout?
It's quite time consuming when programing complex workouts with multiple steps and would save a lot of time if I could just copy steps etc.

Also, is there any way to share a workout with a training partner, or maybe export it as a file for sharing?

Yes, either you can share directly the workout FIT file that you find on the watch in the folder //GARMIN/Workouts, or you can use the app Garmin Clipboard.

  • Thanks for the feedback. Garmin Clipboard is an option, but it would be great if there was just an option to do this fairly simple task in Garmin Connect web.

  • I recommend suggesting it to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin

There's a chrome extension for this:

    https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/share-your-garmin-connect/kdpolhnlnkengkmfncjdbfdehglepmff

I just tried it and it works fine. The extension:

    - adds a Download button to individual workout pages, to export a workout as a JSON file

    - adds an Import button to the page that lists all workouts, to import a previously exported JSON file

(If either of these buttons doesn't appear, try refreshing the page)

Ofc the big limitation here is that your training partner needs to use a computer or an android phone (and that most people don't find receiving a file and importing it to be intuitive at all)

I find it really interesting that when you create a workout and sync it to a device, Garmin explicitly tells you that your workout won't be shared with anyone else, as if to intentionally highlight this limitation.

Yeah, you're not the first person to be frustrated by this limitation. Someone made a userscript (that no longer works) which added a copy workout step feature to the Garmin Connect website. It's probably still possible (in principle).

Others have created command line tools to create workouts from text files and sync them to GC, such as:

Clearly not user-friendly, but might be more efficient for you once you get over the learning curve.

  • Thanks for sharing that link. I've submitted the suggestion there.
