Active calories way too high

I have used my garmin vivoactive 5 watch for a couple of days now, and I think my active calories are way too high. When I'm doing an activity it seems fine and close to other calculators online when I can add average heartbeat, but for my daily steps it gives an insane number. Yesterday I had around 8k steps and it burned around 900 calories. This should be close to impossible, especially since my heartbeat was between 80 and 125 during this entire time. Any advice on how to fix it? My height, weight and activity level are all already added.

  • The calculation of Active Calories does not use steps (as long as you have a watch with working HR sensor), it uses HR. The more the HR is above your 7 days avg Resting HR, and the closer to the Max HR, the more Active Calories you burn. So if you think you get too many of them, verify that your 7 days avg Resting HR, and the Max HR are correct.
