I lead a small hiking group in Penang, Malaysia and we hike in the jungle on Mondays and Fridays. I create the routes using topo maps of Malaysia in Basecamp for Windows and then create a track file. I import that track using Garmin Connect to the web and create a course. I make the course public and then message the URL to the hikers who sync it with their Fenix 6/7s. I've been doing this very successfully for several years without issue.
On Fri Jul 12, 2024 we started the hike as normal but I noticed that the track was offset by about 100m. I thought I had made an error and upload the incorrect route and didn't think much about. Yesterday (Sun Jul 14, 2024), I planned and created a course as I always do and published the course and uploaded it my fenix 6x.
On Mon, Jul 15, 2024, we started the hike as normal and I noticed that the course was again offset by 100m to the right and down which made it useless for navigating in the jungle. We completed the hike without navigation. When I came home, I started investigating the issue and can reproduce the issue simply by going into Garmin Connect on the web, creating a course and then sending it to my watch. After I sync with Garmin Express and examine the uploaded course using Run -> Courses, I can see the errors as shown below. Below is the course that I created in Garmin Connect the follows a couple of roads and then heads off into the trail head. Note that the course clearly follows the road going left then down then a diagonal etc.
Here is what appeared on my watch:
Note that the course should start on the road to the right of the current location triangle and run along that road then turn down. Instead, it starts offset by about 100m down and 100m to the right.
I checked with earlier courses that I had created and they all are exhibiting the same issue. When I create a route in Basecamp and transfer it directly to the watch, it works perfectly. Please advise on how to fix this issue.
The track in question is public, the link is https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/288109696. 3 other hikers all with Fenix 6x or Fenix 7s within my group experienced the same issue so its not unique to me.
Please contact me if you need information.
