Garmin Connect won't export edited activity?

Hi,

I recorded my swim but I forgot to change the pool length from 50m to 25m. I have auto sync with Strava so the activity uploaded to Strava right away with the incorrect pool length. I changed the pool length to correct one in Garmin Connect, deleted activity from Strava, exported file with edited pool length from Connect, uploaded the file to Strava, but the activity in Strava still acts like in has the original (before editing) pool length - wrong pace, wrong distance. No matter what I do and what file type I export it won't upload the edited activity. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Device is Garmin FR255.

Thanks!

  • The export function always exports the original activity in exactly the form as it was recorded by the watch. The only way to work around it, is using an external tool and editing the FIT file, or exporting it as a TCX file, which then makes it possible to edit it manually, using a simple text editor.

  • Thank you for the answer. That's really weird feature in my opinion. I don't understand why Garmin wouldn't allow to export edited files.

  • I've run into the same limitation, and I assume it exists for technical reasons.

For example, I think total distance and time aren't stored as separate fields in a FIT file (or TCX/GPX), they're calculated from the rest of the data (e.g. by adding up the distances for each of the data points in the file). So if you were to edit total distance, how would that be reflected in the exported data? Clearly Garmin couldn't just randomly add or delete data points to make the rest of the data match the totals.

It seems like there would only be a limited number of cases where an edit could be applied to the FIT file to be exported (such as cropping an activity), and it's just easier for Garmin not to apply any edits to the FIT file.
