Can I edit incorrect data in Garmin Connect?

I was looking at my reports in Garmin Connect and noticed I had an activity several months ago that had an unusually high max heart rate.  I wondered "what the heck was I doing that day?"  I pulled up the activity (a bike ride) and noticed an obvious spike/error in the heart rate graph.  It jumped from 152 to 161 to 188 in a matter of five seconds.  188 is not out of the realm of possibility for me, but would only occur in an extreme event (like a race), which this was not.

Is there a way to edit or delete that spike in the data?

  • You could export the file as original (FIT), use the peak remover in FIT File Tools (https://www.fitfiletools.com/#/peak), delete the original activity, and upload the edited activity.

  • Thanks - that worked, sort of.  I was able to remove the spike using that program, but not edit the data around the spike.  i.e. I used to tool to delete anything above 160, so it effectively deleted the spike.  But I know that the heart rate readings around that spike are inaccurate also (based on the speed, power, elevation, etc.).  Nonetheless, at least I don't have that erroneous spike anymore, throwing off my reports.

Years ago I used to use Polar ProTrainer 5, which had a function that you could go directly into the data and edit any of the data points to whatever you wanted them to be.  So if you had a spike like this, you could edit the readings before and after that spike to smooth out the heart rate data to something more realistic.  Was kind of hoping Connect had something similar, but Garmin to be honest isn't that technologically advanced.

Anyway, thanks for your help.  Good to know about that tool.
