Fitness age page has weird formatting?

The content of the "Fitness age" column is so narrow, it almost looks as if it is trying to render the text on a Vivoactive 5:

It has been like that recently but was not always so.  I feel as if it's a subtle hint that Garmin is about to roll out a "browser on a watch".  Any ideas what might be happening here?

Browser: Firefox

OS: PopOs 22.04 (basically Ubuntu 22.04)

  • From your screenshot, you're viewing the Connect website with an 80% zoom level. I can see the same problem at 80% zoom with Firefox, Chrome and Edge (all on Windows).

You can fix the problem by resetting your zoom level to 100% (CTRL-0). I also found that it still looks ok at 90% zoom.

EDIT: interestingly, this only happens when the browser window is very wide (e.g. 3072 pixels which corresponds to a 4K monitor at 125% resolution scaling). If you set 80% zoom but also decrease the width of window (e.g. to about 2500 pixels), then the problem goes away.

So this suggests that it's a problem which only happens when the width of the Fitness Age content is very narrow compared to the width of the browser window. Given that I can reproduce this problem at 80% zoom on a 4K monitor at 125% resolution scaling (which is lower than the default/recommended scaling of 150%), I'm not surprised Garmin didn't catch this bug. Your screenshot is 3416 pixels wide, so I'm guessing you have an ultrawide monitor (or 4k at 100% scaling, but you didn't maximize the window)? Also wouldn't be surprised if Garmin didn't test that use case.

(For smaller displays/windows, it's also possible to recreate the problem by going down to an even lower zoom level, like 50%.)

If it's important to you, I suggest contacting Product Support ([email protected] or https://support.garmin.com/)

  • Nice catch!  Yes, I have a large screen and often at 80%, so that was a perfect diagnosis.
