How can I save a file opened in Garmin Connect on my PC as a .gpx file?

A friend with a Garmin device has sent me a Garmin file so that I can develop the route, which I want to open in OS maps. All the online advice is to export the file as a .gpx file but I can find no settings, options or 'More' button on the PC app which will allow me to do this. What am I missing?

And if it is not an activity, rather a course, then you can export it from the page of Courses:

Hi and thanks for the response which is much appreciated.

My friend had recorded the track on his Garmin watch and sent me the link via email:

I opened this in Garmin Connect, which tells me I have no activities and no courses, and I can find no way to export the file in any format. I suspect that this is something to do with it being a shared file.

Have you clicked "Save to my courses"? Click it and then Save and it will end up in your courses.

If I click on "Reports and Notifications" it simply tells me "Inbox is Empty" and gives me no options to save anything.

Then don't click there. You shouldn't click there at all for this.

Click the cog wheel and Save to my courses and save it. Then you got it in your courses and can export it to GPX according to the instruction by trux.

Thanks for your efforts, but there is no cog wheel anywhere which I find really strange. Could i have some kind of 'viewer' version ( like Adobe pdf viewer software for e.g.) of Garmin Connect?

Are you really using Garmin Connect Web ? You are on the forum for GC Web here. The functions we refer to, are not available on the phone app.

Good question. I believe I am. When I click on the course link my friend sent me Garmin Connect pops up in my browser (Chrome) on my PC. I don't have the app installed on my phone.

You can only export your own activities. If it is an activity of a friend, you have to save it as Course first, and then export it from the Courses page (the second screenshot in my initial reply)
