When I share an activity on Facebook, the post preview thumbnail is broken (in various ways, depending if I share from an android phone or from a web browser...)

No matter if I share from the Garmin Connect Android app, or from the "connect.garmin.com" website, here is how the preview looks like :

  • when viewed from the web browser,

  • when viewed in the Facebook android app:

I've had my watch since May 2021, but this feature never worked properly.

Initially, I was able to work-around it by manually editing the URL that I was sharing, so that it followed a specific "syntax":
".../connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/___ID___/share/0"
Then, around August 2022, this stopped working as well.

Then I opened this discussion and I was able to make it work by applying that workaround suggested in one reply.
However, that workaround only fixed the thumbnail when the facebook feed is viewed in the web-browser; no fix when viewing in the Facebook Android app.

Today I noticed that not even that jQuery.getJSON(... thing helps, not even partially.

And since that original discussion is not closed, I'm opening a new thread.

Anybody discovered any new workarounds ?

Dear Garmin company, any plans to fix an issue about which users have been complaining for years ?

  • Other than implementing workarounds, best to contact Garmin Support directly regarding this issue - https://support.garmin.com

  • Did that. And got the response, saying that they won't look into it any more.

    Hello Serban,

Thank you for reaching out to us about this. I understand we had a case open for you to research this concern last year. I've just followed up on that with our developers and regret to inform you that we currently have no plans to change the design of the Facebook activity share. What's currently being displayed is indeed a generic map thumbnail instead of a preview of the actual map of the activity. I understand this probably was not the answer you were hoping for, but wanted to make you aware all the same.
    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

I guess I'll start researching for a non-Garmin smartwatch, just to know what are my options, when my Fenix 6 reaches end of life...

    It's all good... Upside down

  • Just share the link from Strava for the activity.

  • Hm Thinking , that sounds interesting as an approach Slight smile

But how would my activity get in Strava, in the first place ?

Currently I don't use it, don't want to use something else asides from my watch...

    Nevermind, I should've RTFM... Grin

    I'll definitely explore this option.

    Thanks.
