Forerunner 610 Fails to Sync

Recently the 610 is failing to sync to connect with the error message in Garmin Express stating "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect"  The display on the watch displays the transfering is progress 'transfering data' and Garmin Connect also displays the synching message, but at some point in the process it stops working with the above message appearing.  This has been happening for several weeks at might even coincidend with the 'new' Garmin Connect web site update.

I have uninstalled Garmin Express fully and rinstalled it.  The Ant+ is being detected correctly and shows that the latest drive is being used.   I have removed the watch from Garmin Express, removed the softare and then reinstalled both - still the same problem.   This is on a Windows 11 machine.  The problem is identical on a Windows 10 machine I have.  On that machine I rolled back to an earlier version of Garmin express, but the problem prevails.  

Recognising that there has been sync issues over the years I was expecting this one to just get 'fixed' but that is not the case this time.

Anything else I can try my end that could be the solution to resolving this issue.

  • It's difficult with devices that used the ANT stick from 13 years ago. I'm familiar with the 310XT which was a similar ANT stick device. I would suggest restoring the watch to factory defaults, as mentioned in this video starting at around 1:30. Seems like you've tried everything else.

  • Thanks for the advice - it had occured to me to reset the watch and have now done so.  There is an improvement, the watch is now syncing without the error message coming up, however once it starts syncing it does not stop.  I will try a few things (power off on etc) to see what difference it makes and go from there.  One thing that confused me was that my history was still intact on the watch after the reset, upto a point, the latest 3 records had disappeared but there was an awefull lot of older ones still there, thankfully they did sync sometime ago.
