The new web home page is a JOKE

I tried the beta and went back  to the good non beta that shows all the info I want in a manner I want to see it, then when i logged in this morning i was confronted with this

And on pressing the blue button I was confronted with this

This is of little use to me really as even with in focus turned on  as I have now gives me very little useful info like my dashboards used to

  • I can agree that it is likely an economic decision but respectfully, I would disagree that most users are mobile users. It have little hope it will go back. I just had a chat with a lovely Garmin representative asking how to go back to the old interface, I actually feel bad for her, I am sure she is going to get a lot of negative feedback today. There is no way to go back. I would however suggest going to the support centre and asking yourself and they will give the feedback to the creators of this disaster. She indicated that others had been in contact and that she, herself, was hoping for a change.

  • They made a change for the sake of change,

No, my impression is that the update is an economic decision. Garmin will merge GC Web and GC Mobile to reduce maintenance costs and effort. Since most users use GC Mobile with their cell phones, we can be glad that Garmin is not discontinuing GC Web.

From my POV unfortunately there is no hope that the new homepage will return to the old dashboard. Maybe we'll see a few small improvements, but that's about it. I think we've to calm down and cope with this.

Agreed 100%. The new look is mostly an improvement (or lateral move) on the app (with the exception of a couple of things that I personally hate), but it's a huge step backwards for the website. The dashboard wasn't perfect, but the flexibility and functionality was so much better than what we have now.

Unfortunately the website still has functionality that the app doesn't, such as the ability to search activities. If this trend of making the website more like the app continues, there won't be any point in using the website at all. (And I'm sure Garmin would be just fine with that. Maybe this is a stealth move to drive ppl towards the app, idk.)

Yeah, I think the type of user that suggests problem solving techniques like "just plug your Garmin into a PC and sync with Garmin Express - simple!" don't realize that even 10 years ago, a lot of people preferred to do things only with their phone (if they even owned a computer). In 2024, the average person will look at you like you're crazy if you suggest doing something with a computer, and it was the case around 2015-2016, too.

I would disagree that most users are mobile users

I bet that most people under a certain age who aren't tech enthusiasts, coders or gamers never use a computer outside of work.

I know plenty of people who own a laptop but never use it for anything. If you suggest doing something on their computer (like using runalyze.com to get some stats that garmin connect hides), they'd rather do it on their phone. If the UX on their phone is bad, they just might not do it at all.

  • I actually used the web page far more than the app as gave far more info as well as a nice big screen to view it in comfort... I Use the wifi sync function of my watch to get the data syned,

  • " there won't be any point in using the website at all." sunnto did that and I suspect Garmin intend to push it too... trouble is as tha app evolves(possible for the better but doubt it) so does the requirements of the phone to run it....  And that then creates issue which push people to drop garmin...,

My 2 cents is any issues or limitations with Connect have nothing to do with tech specs of your phone.

Just look at the Strava and Stryd apps. They're not perfect, but the user experience is so much better than Connect. I know lots of runners who wear Garmins but never open Connect; they use strava for everything. Even though strava shows a lot less data, it's simple and easy to use, which is what people want.

Imo, a lot of stuff that that's slow / awkward in either the Connect app or website, such as scrolling through your calendar, is the way it is bc Garmin isn't great at software.

  • I am not a runner buddy so connect is what I have too use... Please remember not everyone uses their watch for running and cycling  lol many of us use them for hiking and mountain sports..

  • Why the *** are you dropping the Dashboards?

From professional to lifestyle - or is there now a pro plan for real athletes including those dropped features?

Yeah, I'm not criticizing anyone who wants/has to use Connect. I use both the site and the app pretty religiously.

I'm just saying most people I know don't use computers at all (outside of work), and most runners I know don't use Connect bc the usability sucks. I agree with the people who speculate that users of the Connect website are in the minority compared to users of the app. Obviously Garmin cares a lot more about the app, which is why they're currently making the website more like the app and not the other way around.

(Ironically these forums are absolutely useless on mobile. I know Garmin didn't develop the platform, but they chose it. That's probably why a good number of people on the forums use the Connect website, since we are probably accessing the forums themselves on a computer. If you look at the garmin subreddit, for example, most people there only talk about the Connect app and never the Connect website)

  • I always found connect to be stable personally...Anyway the whole app/web things needs an even bigger over hall and fix now too sort out the issues they created out of thin air !!

  • I always found connect to be stable personally

Stable is not the same as user-friendly. As a CIQ developer I've seen annoying problems relating to CIQ apps when they were managed through Connect. Now that there's a separate app for that (Connect IQ), it has its own issues.

As far as user friendliness, responsiveness and functionality go, both the Connect app and website have a ton of issues imo. I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about it, but I'll try to restrain myself this time.

All I can say is talking to average (non-techie, non-developer) people, they've said stuff like "the Connect app is too complicated". Why do you think Garmin is changing the app home page in the first place? Even DC Rainmaker said that the change is necessary to streamline the interface. Doesn't mean he's automatically right, but that's def the public perception.
