How can I sync custom activity profiles between watches or at least create them on the computer?

I'm about to switch to a new watch after some 7 years of use. I have several custom activity profiles (settings, alerts, data screens, etc.), which were very painful to create on the watch. I want to either sync these to the new device (best case), or at least have the option to re-create them through Garmin Express. So far, I haven't been able to find either. Am I missing something? Are these features coming soon?

At the majority of recent watch models, you can edit activity profiles in the Garmin Connect phone app. You can also try copying the custom activity profiles from the folder //GARMIN/Sports/ of the old watch to the new one, though it is not guaranteed that the old profiles would work on a new watch. At a 7 years old model, I think the chances are rather slim.
