Why has canoeing changed from speed to pace?

For some reason all my canoeing activites on Garmin Connect have changed in the last couple of days from showing speed ( miles per hour) to pace (in minutes per mile).

I record these as SUP (as Garmin for some reason doesn't put a canoeing activity on any of their watches, don't know what they have against it), which is in pace, and then usually convert to canoeing so I can view them in a nicer format with speed in the graphs as it tends to make it easier to see differences in speed in surf vs against the wind etc.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or a deliberate change by them, and if so why they think we want pace for canoeing?

(Ideally we'd get to pick -- I think for a lot of sports people really do use both of these, so it should probably be a user preference option instead of a mandated value)

This is on the website, but not on the phone app (mostly).  I'm in the beta program for garmin connect if that makes any difference, although I haven't found where to upload bugs to weirdly as I've seen a few.
