Coach Amy Half Marathon Plan with a Time Goal

Hi All,

Started Coach Amy's 1/2 Marathon training program "with a time goal" for 2:00.00

The plan will be 18 weeks long for me (based on date of race) and i am currently finishing wk 3. So far, ALL of the runs have been classified as "Easy Runs," and although theyve varied in distance (with a long run increasing each week) there have been no other types of workouts. No speed, no intervals, no cadence, nothing.  Also - the "easy run pace" is more than 90 seconds slower than my planned race pace.....

Is it like this the whole way through? Im sure just extending my runs will get me there, but its getting really boring.....

  • Is it like this the whole way through?

I am afraid nobody really knows, since the Coach Plans are adaptive, and hence different for everyone. If the algorithm thinks you need to build more aerobic base, it may push you doing more easy long runs. If it thinks you need some anaeroby, it may add intervals. Either you trust it, and follow the instructions, or you end it, and choose a different coach. Or you just train following your guts. It is like in the real life.

  • Hi, those are my 3 first weeks of Coach Amy run last year.

As you can see I have various runs. What was result of your Benchmark run? That First one?

  • I went 1.02 miles in the 9 minutes given…. But the timed part, which was 5 mins, was 0.61 miles (8:12 pace).

what do you think that number means in terms of setting the future plan? I just have no idea.

  • I have no idea as well. I am living in min/km (sorry) this is what I have had:

    and those are my numbers:

I guess you are just building base for future faster runs. But not have a single faster run is strange.

Can you check one more thing, please? Your Load Focus. Mine looks like this, but I have half marathon this Sunday, hence Anaerobic Shortage is OK.

Maybe you are running too fast and your Low Aerobic is still below Optimal Range?

  • I don’t think I have the “load focus.” Maybe because my watch is only the Venu 2, so not that sophisticated.

  • None of the watches in the Venu series have load focus.

  • So do you think that means it can’t actually make a training plan for me as it doesn’t have enough info?

  • No, if you have this option it should be OK for you. It must be calculated somehow when you should have Tempo or Threshold runs. And my training was on FR 245. Also not that top or the newest one.

Another thought. At the sign-up stage you have answered several questions. Like, how many miles per week you run already, what is your average pace. Maybe here is your problem?
