Loops in courses/training (cycling for instance)

Hi.

I have a question similar to this (old) one : https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-web/296109/loops-in-training

I would like to create a cycling course (I hope this is the correct translation) or training that includes loops. For example, something that would look like this :

step 0 - start from home

step 1 - go to the start of loop number 1

step 2 - ride X times this loop

step 3 - go to the start of the next planned loop

step 4 - repeat steps 2 and 3 with new loop as many times as desired

step 5 - go home

I didn't find how to currently do this (if this is possible, please tell me where and forgive my question ^^).

Of course, I know I can create one single course with all the loops I want (or even do the ride once without a saved trace and create it after the training). But I wanted to know if there is a possibility to "program" it, as a training for instance (this way I could do the same "training plan" with different loops easily).

Thanks a lot.

  • It will be really hard to see what loop you are on since they will be on top of each other. There is no function to keep track of the loops.

What you can do is to just don't create multiple loops. Create one loop and ride it X times. You have to keep track of the X times, but the device will navigate you. It will try to navigate you to the next planned loop after loop 1 but just ignore that and continue with the looping and the device will start to navigate you again. It will first say off track and then after maybe 50 meters it will find the loop. After each loop it will do the step 3 but ignore that until you are ready to end the first looping.

  • Thanks for your reply. That's a "workaround" I can go with :)

I still think/hope this could be a good feature to have in the future (I'm probably not the only one who would use this) but I can go with your solution.

(The part I was not sure about was that the GPS would go back to navigate me "correctly" after I started loop 2 ; I thought it would keep telling me "wrong direction" which could become a bit annoying for a 20 km loop ^^)
