Garmin Forerunner 255: Running Courses showing up under Bike

Hi,

I recently graduated from an Apple watch for a Garmin Forerunner 255 and started jogging/running. As I travel, I would like to use the Navigation->Courses option to be able to plan and then run using a training plan or recorded run on a recognized route.

I have setup a couple of courses (as running courses) on the Garmin Connect Web app, but despite seeing them appear on my phone and (apparently) sync, they were not appearing on my watch (Forerunner 255). That is, until I stumbled across them under "Bike": I have double-checked that thee are setup as runs, but they appear to transfer as bike routes.

    1) Is there a way to correct?

    2) Can I still select and then do a run from my training plan whilst using the Course for guidance?

Thanks In Advance

Paul

  • You can edit a course in Garmin Connect and change type, but since it is already the correct type then you can't change it to that.

You can't select a bike course from the running activity.

A workaround is to use the Navigate activity type. Then you can select all types of courses. You will have to edit the activity afterwards and change it to running.

Try creating a bike course and see what happens.

  • @e7andy thanks for the quick response!

Under Navigation, all I see is "Data Screens",  "Heading Bug" and "Alerts". So, the only way I can get to my courses is under "Bike"/

As you suggested, I tried a Bike course, and it shows up as a Bike course.

  • Sorry, I checked and Navigate is not available on 255 so that will not work.

You can try using a different service like Komoot to create the course. If you connect Garmin Connect and Komoot the course should automatically be transferred to the watch. I use Strava to create all my courses, but it requires a Strava subscription. All courses I create in Strava will be available for both bike and run. Therefore I always prefix my courses with "Ride " or "Run" so I quickly see what type of course it is.. Ex. "Run-CityCenter, 8 km".

  • I'm having the same stupid problem. Pretty disappointing having just bought the watch. I tried creating a trail running course using both the beta version of Connect and the old version. Then I tried creating a course on a 3rd party app (GAIAGPS). They all wound up only under bike. This stinks - I was really excited to try it out tomorrow

  • I just got mine to work after having the same problem. My highly technical solution was to turn it off then on again. Made me feel dumb but I'm happy it's working
