Is there an activity for bowling?

Hello all

Is there an activity for bowling

Jim

  • Unfortunately, not at this time. Here you can find a list of activity profiles with the watches that are compatible with them: Activity Profile Options On My Wellness Watch

  • No, as mentioned already, but this is something you can add rather easily depending on what you're expecting the watch to do.

The easiest way to do this is in Garmin Connect. There are two ways to do it:

    1. Add an "Other" Activity - Select your watch in More -> Garmin Devices (toward the bottom) and tap Activities. Then tap Add+ at the bottom,. At the bottom of the next long list is an option for Other. Name this whatever, like "Bowling", and configure the options as desired. Important things are to shut off the GPS for indoor activities, disable auto lap for things where laps don't make sense, and set the data screens up to show what you want to show.
    2. Copy a Built-In Activity - This is a little more glitchy and the option to do it is in a place that doesn't make sense to me, Go back to the device settings as before, but this time click Apps instead of Activities. Now scroll all the way down and there's an option to "Copy Activity". (Not sure why this isn't under activities.) You can then copy a built-in activity type and give it a new name. This option is more useful if the custom activity resembles a built-in activity strongly enough, for example copying the Pool Swim to another indoor swimming activity. For bowling I don't know if there's anything vaguely similar so "Other" might be a better choice.

Many of the activities seem like they lack any special motion-tracking behavior and are probably just copies of "Cardio" with data screens configured with different information, laps disabled when not applicable, and gps turned off for indoor stuff.

Activities can also be added by Connect IQ apps. Developers have a setting for "Sport" which there's a large list of, but it doesn't seem like whether or not the developer intent declaration results in any special motion-tracking or data recording behavior is documented and one device might have special algorithms for a sport while another just falls back to using cardio, walk, run, etc behavior.

  • Thank everyone for all your replies.
