Garmin Double Counting Calories

I have purchased a Garmin HRM Pro so that I don't have to wear my Fenix 7X to work (I wear a normal watch). During the day I could see on my Garmin Connect App that it was counting steps and active calories. When I got home and took the HRM off and put my Fenix 7X on, it recorded 1750 active calories for the day, which is just wrong. I can not find the TrueUp function anywhere in the App (following all the tips on the Garmin Website). I use MFP, but not sure if this sends data to Garmin Connect.

Basically I want to be able to wear the Fenix7 when I am training and otherwise just wear the HRM to work etc, which will count everything.

Thanks in advance for the help.

  • When I got home and took the HRM off and put my Fenix 7X on, it recorded 1750 active calories for the day,

Really 1750 Active Calories, or rather Total Calories (including the Resting Calories)? Wasn't the value simply synced back from the strap?

  • Active 1754. I only did 200cals during weights this morning (easy morning). Then showered, took the Fenix 7 off and put the HRM on and went to work. When I got home I took HRM off, turned watch on and put it on. It seemed to add the automatically calculated cals for the day when I turned it on to what the HRM had been recording all day. No way I have done 1754 active and a further 1952 resting today.

  • Could you post a screenshot of the Calories In/Out screen of Garmin Connect?

  • Thanks for your help. Worked it out. I had the HRM paid to the Fenix 7. When I took it off, after it had been updating the data all day to Garmin Connect, it then paired with the watch, updated the active / inactive data to the Fenix, which then sent the data to Garmin Connect a second time. I unpaired the HRM from the Fenix and work the HRM only today, then when I turned the Fenix back on tonight, it used TrueUp to ensure the data was only recorded once, but the HRM wasn’t paired to the Fenix, so it didn’t double count. Problem. Solved. Appreciate you writing.
