Calorie Burn Inconsistency on Elliptical

Hi All, I recently bought a Fenix 7 and have been using it for tracking my workouts. More specifically the elliptical trainer.

The Problem: I typically have the elliptical on the close to highest intensity setting which is not something I can replicate or enter into my watch. As a result, by the end of the workout based off the machine in the gym, I had burned 500 or so calories, but on the watch I had only 300 or so calories. I entered my bodyweight and all other details into the trainer at the gym.

1. Which is more accurate?

2. Is there a way to edit the calories of a cardiovascular exercise post workout?

3. This gaping hole in the capability of an otherwise amazing tracker, will it be ever be fixed?

thanks!

  • 1. Which is more accurate?

Hard to tell without doing a calorimetry in the lab. It also depends on what entry data each of the devices used. Did you start an activity on the watch? Did you use HRM strap, or the internal HR sensor? Generally though, the watch has much more data on you, including the training history, EPOC, LT, VO₂max, Resting HR, Max HR,... so assuming all that data is accurate, the watch should be more accurate.

    2. Is there a way to edit the calories of a cardiovascular exercise post workout?

You can edit Calories of the activity, but the value will not be used anywhere else.

    3. This gaping hole in the capability of an otherwise amazing tracker, will it be ever be fixed?

I am not aware of any gaping hole. Assuming the entry data is all right, the algorithm can calculate the Calories pretty accurately.
