Why might Garmin not allow these edits?

Once in a while hiking or an activity like that, I will forget to stop the activity when I return to my car.  No problem as when I get home, I just trim the end of the activity to accurately reflect the hike, etc.  However, on timed activities, I don't see a way to do anything similar.  For example, if I take a yoga class or go to the gym and miss stopping the activity when I finish, the time just keeps going until I notice.  So, I may end up with a gym session that is 2 hours long when I was only at the gym for an hour.  I cannot see anyway to "trim" the time of the activity back to one hour?  I can edit the work time or the start and end time, but not the total time.  The activity will always show as too long as the total time is the time that is displayed for the activity on the main page or any summaries or reports.

Am I missing something here or does Garmin just not allow editing of the total time of an activity when you forget to stop it when you should?  If not, what might be Garmin's reasoning to not allow this?

Thanks!

  • Editing start and duration times should be enough, new time is then visible on the Activities' list.

    Wasn't comparing reports though.

  • Interesting that that works for you. I do the same and the time that shows any activities list does not change. Just to be clear, I changed the start time and the duration and when I go back to the activities list the old total time has not changed.

  • Well this is very interesting. I just tried it on the mobile app as before I've always tried it on the web app. The mobile app has different fields that you can edit then the web app does. My version of the web app does not allow you to edit what I believe you were referring to as the duration time. But in the mobile app, I can just simply edit the total time for the activity and it does what I want. I guess the Connect website just doesn't work quite the same way. When I'm on the Garmin connect website there are three time fields in those activities. Only two of them are editable. But the one that isn't editable on the web is in the mobile app so that solves the problem. Thanks!

  • Just checked and there is difference for activities with exercises, when editing such, there is no full duration, but separate duration for each exercise - but just tried on manually created one and it still updated full duration after changing duration of some exercise.

If this not working like that for a recorded activity of specific type - then change its type (for other), edit time, and change back type.

  • Ok. I'll just do it on the mobile app from now on as that seems to work as you would expect for all of my types of activities at least. It's not often that I forget to stop it at the end of the activity but when it does happen, it was annoying to not know how to fix it. Thanks.

  • Better than editing the time, is temporarily changing the activity type to one of the types that support trimming (i.e. Running), trimming it, and then changing back the activity type to the original. Only that will assure that for example the HR and other graphs are really trimmed, and not just scaled to the edited time.

  • Great advice. Thanks!
