Malformed file

Hi there,

My indoor run activity from 1/20/24 will not sync to my Garmin. I also tried to manually upload the file Strava and the file is malformed. I used the FIT file tools section remover and didn't make any changes to the data. Instead of having a 10 mile run for 2 hrs, it uploaded as over a 13,000 mile run. I deleted from Strava as I'm not sure what is happening with this file. In the history on my watch the mileage is accurate.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Here is the file:

    This will work - [solved]

Some things noted in the activity...

    • Timestamps not in chronological order
    • Distance values not in ascending order

Garmin Connect has a hard time comprehending this and will therefore reject it. I corrected those and deleted timestamps that had GPS position data, as there shouldn't be any GPS data on an indoor activity.

As for preventing this in the future, probably not possible with this watch, but some things you can try...

    • Avoid pressing stop or pause during an activity.
    • Sync your watch, backup the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder, then do a full master reset of your Forerunner 35 using these directions - Restoring All Default Settings.
    • Perform a weekly cleanup of the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder using these directions - Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space. The F35 seems to have problems with longer activities, so this step is important before a longer event.
  • Hi, thank you for troubleshooting. I was able to upload accurate data. I appreciate your help and will definitely pay attention to the tips you gave!
