Venu 2s double counting steps

I have recently bought a Garmin Venu 2s and have an ongoing bug bear I was wondering if anyone could help with.

It seems that when I use the treadmill at the gym and log this as an 'Indoor Walking' activity, I am being credited calories for the activity, but the steps taken during the walk are also added to my daily step count and I receive credit for them there too.

This seems to result in an overinflated number of active calories and I am concerned it isn't right. Is there a workaround or should I just stop logging walks at all and just rely on the daily step count (even though some walks are more rigorous/uphill and therefore some steps surely more calorie burning than others?)

Steps have no impact on Active Calories in Garmin Connect. Active Calories are calculated on the basis of your heart rate, the heart rate variability, breathing rate, resting and max HR, body parameters, and the training history. Steps play no role (as long as the HR sensor is available), unless you meant some 3rd party app, in which case you usually can configure the 3rd party app or service so, that it accepts Calories from Garmin, without adding Calories for steps (or vice versa).

  • Oh okay! Thats reassuring! Thank you so much for the information
