Software BETA Garmin Connect - Suggestions and Improvements

Connect app/web beta is rolling out

While the Garmin Connect app is fairly good it falls behind Apple Health, some minor tweaks could bring it up to speed fairly fast and make it way more user friendly.

  1. My first suggestion: make it easy to get 3rd party data into Connect
    1. Open connect up to receive data from 3rd party hardware via bluetooth or ANT+ either through the watch or phone. This would immediately open up support for bluetooth Scales, heart rate monitors and many other devices, this would remove the hassle of trying to maintain data that is not collected by the watches.
    2. If this is not possible allow Connect to receive data from Apple Health
  2. Open up Connect Beta's to users accessing the Device Beta's and collaborate between the 2.

Hopefully Garmin will not close this discussion and you will add some suggestions of your own.

  • It needs improvement.  Adding biometrics needs additional buttons to be pushed. I want to see all my stats and not have to expand the windows. The old layout was good, the new boxes are a nice look, but does not allow me to customize it much.

  • I agree with on this one - Connect Web trying to rigidly mimic the Connect Mobile home page 1:1 with no ability to decouple the two is a very shortsighted design decision. Period.

The way I'm using Connect Web (and I doubt I'm an outlier here) is to make long-term (weeks, months, and seasons) planning decisions about my training and wellness, whereas the mobile app is for day-to-day monitoring. These are different use-cases with different UX design requirements - Web is for thoughtful review on a big screen with a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning and custom dashboards spanning the entire screen, Mobile is for on the go nitty-grittys with readability and ease of use.

If Garmin maintains the current course, it will force me to abandon Connect Web altogether in favor of intervals.icu or TrainingPeaks - with the exception of the Reports section, the Import-Data page, and a few other functions either unavailable or too cumbersome to do on Android.

  • Looks like none of the suggestions from the beta testers was implemented, based on current discussion.

  • I was an early beta tester. Initially there were only a dozen or so stats to add to the at-a-glance screen. I suggested this get increased. I'm sure I was one of many that did the same. I believe it's something like 30 stats now. Not saying I love the way it is, but they did listen to some of us.

There is not one item in "At A Glance" that I want on the screen :-(

I would be less "whiney" about this..let's call it an "update" if I had an "In Focus" option of "This Week", not just "Yesterday" and "Last 7 days"! My training focus is all about my numbers, and those of my "Connections" for this week...not interested in what I did last week (which falls within the last 7 days). Yes, I know the data is still there, and we can use the crappy old links down the left side, but I thought "Dashboards" were meant to allow us to see what we want before drilling down?? Until then I will have to bookmark the https://connect.garmin.com/modern/newsfeed page:-(

  • Thank you for making it .1% less sucky.

  • Desktop can show 6 "in focus" widgets at once, I don't see that much that are useful. Generally everything should be available in both sections. And they should not have released anything until it reached the level of information the previous design had.
