No Training Effect from FulGaz FIT Files

For the last month or so, Garmin Connect does not show any training effect for the rides I am doing on FulGaz.

I import the FIT file in the usual way - because of a lack of integration between Connect and FulGaz in the first place - and whereas before Connect was showing me the training effect, etc. that section is now missing.

What has changed?

  • Sadly the training effect requires more than just heart rate: it also requires data on effort (either speed or power).

  • The Garmin Tacx app says it's a subscription app, so more money to Garmin because they've crippled Connect, and in any event the Garmin Tacx app pages says "Third party trainers are not compatible", so we're back at square one.

    Thanks for trying though!

Nope, you get Training Effect also for workouts not involving any speed, such as strength, HIIT, cardio, etc. Training Effect is based purely on the data from the HRM (HR, HRV, respiratory rate), and on some background data collected on you over time. See the details at EPOC_based_training_effect_assesment_REVISED 2.doc (firstbeat.com)

You need powermeter only for VO₂max and for the Training Load.

You can use Tacx without a subscription, you just do not get the videos, but trainings are available without a subscription. And although you cannot connect a 3rd party trainer for the full support, you can connect individual sensors - speed sensor, cadence, power, hrm,... I have a noname indoor bike and use it with the Tacx app in this way. My bike does not have a electronically controlled resistance (I have to control it manually), though, so I do not know whether it is possible to use too.

But you can also connect the sensors directly to your watch or Edge computer, and record the activity bypassing Tacx completely.
