Coach not in synch between watch and app

Excuse typos in advance

Just got a Forerunner 265 10 days ago. Set up a 5K plan via a coach on the Connect app. Ran the benchmark and the first three workouts with no issues. Suddenly the watch and the app diverged on the workout schedule. On Thursday I executed a tempo run as the “watch-based coach” indicated; however on Friday morning, the “app-based coach” indicated that I needed to run the tempo run I had run on Thursday as if I had not already done so. Since I’m new to the Garmin community, I figured that it must be a user error. Unfortunately, the “watch-based coach” had me run a 5-mile, long run (my preferred day for long runs) on Saturday whereas the “app-based coach” presented the same workout on Sunday. In both instances, the “app-based coach” does not recognize that I have completed the assigned runs while the “watch-based coach” seems to think that I have completed the runs.

I have (re)synchronized the watch and app multiple times; I have changed the activity types for all runs from “uncategorized” to “training”; rebooted both the watch and my iPhone; all to no avail.

I’m hesitant to forget-and-repair the watch and the app as I don’t want to lose my completed training, but…

is this what I should do?
