Distance unconsistency between Garmin Connect and the TCX file

Hello

in Garmin connect Web the distance is 77,35 km

in the TCX file (exported through Garmin Connect Web) the distance (field ns1:DistanceMeters6 and field ns1:DistanceMeters) is 78240,597m, ie 78,240m

Why this difference ?

  • FIT is the smallest, TCX and GPX are large - for unknown reason only FIT is served as ZIP, other files as raw. Makes no sense, but it's set like that.

So it's normal that after clicking nothing seems to happen when an activity is long as a file is large. Open DevTools → Network to see if a request was made.

And yup, probably other distance comes from the course's file. Export again from the activity, then distance should be ok.

  • TCX export never worked today but I managed différently

    1) export as FIT (which worked...)

    2) Used fit-converter.exe t convert from FIT to TCX

    3) Opened TCX in Excel

... and the distance is now right !

Thanks for helping, at last I know the "cooking procedure" (as we say in French) for the next time...

  • Well, local converter may work differently. For example online export removes laps for GPX, but you can convert FIT locally and keep laps. So this doesn't actually check how TCX converted online looks.

If exporting doesn't work, then status at Network tab may give some clue, some had problems on some connections.

But using local converter is better as you have access to converter's settings, so ye, your procedure is fine.
