Can't change my username

IHi,

I follow the instruction to change the email associated to my Garmin account under Profile but I have always an error, that says that is not possible to update the account.

In a couple of days I will retire the the actual email will be unavailable, so I will not be able to recover the password in case I forget it.

Is there any solution?

Thanks

giorgio

  • Many thanks.

Called support and they told me there's a bug and they don't know when it will be solved.

In the meantime I have requested the download of all the Garmin data, I will create a new account and will populate it with the info collected from the ZIP file received

  • I do not quite understand why you create a new GC account. First of all, I see you are using a Gmail address. Gmail will not remove your account when you retire. And your employer cannot force to to delete your Gmail account, since it is in your name, not using any corporate parts. However, even if you decide to cancel the Gmail account voluntarily, you can continue using your old Garmin Connect account, as long as you know your password. You can then change the email address, when the bug is fixed. And if you do not remember your password, change it while you still have the access to the mailbox.

After creating a new GC account you will not be able to import all metrics. Basically you can import only activities and some of the body data, but you will lose a lot of data anyway.

  • Trux,

thanks for replying. The gmail address you see is what I want to use from now, at the moment my account is using an email address from my company and I'm retiring, so I wanted to change it, because if i.e. I need to retrieve my password in the future,  the mail message with the link will be sent to the non-more-existing company email address.

I wanted to do it now before leaving the company, but the bug doesn't allow it.

I know the current password, I've saved it safely.

Regarding the new account in the meantime I will try to import what has been saved, in the hope not to have to use it

    I hope it's clearer now

  • And last but not least, I will not receive this replies via email Wink

Just curious - who will delete your Gmail account and why should it happen when you retire?

BTW, you do not need any emails from this forum (I have turned them off all, voluntarily). It is enough to open the forum occasionally, and you see instantly whether there was any new post in one of the threads you participated in - there will be a number in a blue ring on the notification icon to right.
