Hello,
I can find multiple issues reported regarding treadmill calibration and user statistics. But I think that the whole flow is fundamentally flawed. Here is why (i.e. with Forerunner 965 but that's the case with virtually any other watch):
- I start a run on a treadmill - for example, a Base run (basically running with the same slow pace for some time).
- At this point, my watch determines an absolutely ridiculous pace and keeps warning me about being too fast or too slow.
- As soon as the workout is completed, the watch presents a Workout Score.
- The Workout Score is inadequate due to the pace not being detected properly.
- I end the run, at which point I decide to calibrate the treadmill (adjust the distance) and save the run.
- The Pace throughout the workout gets adjusted accordingly, however...
- The Workout Score stays the same, as well as any PRs.
The effect today was that:
- My Workout Score was 7%, although it should have been no less than 99% as the treadmill was running at almost constant 6:10/km pace.
- I have a PR at 5k with 4:30/km pace while the average pace of my 6 km run was 6:19/km.
I think what is wrong is that:
- The Workout Score is shown before the end of the workout (and therefore before the treadmill calibration) and doesn't get updated afterwards.
- The watch detects the PRs before the treadmill calibration and sends them over unchanged as well.
What I think can be done better is:
- The Workout Score, PRs and other statistics should be determined after treadmill calibration.
- I see no reason to show Workout Score at the end of the workout, rather than at the end of the activity (or at least not to calculate it again).
- Ideally, it would be great if one could trigger treadmill calibration during the activity as well (even though it might be a bit tricky).
- This would normalize the pace indicated during the workout and reduce the number of inadequate alerts (and also lead to better statistics upon activity's end).
Thank you for reading all of this.
