What did I do to cause my goal steps to jump up so much on November 5?

My goal on November 4 was 4,150 steps and I only walked 1,815 steps. However, the next day, November 5, my goal increased to 7,830. Normally, if I miss my goal, my goal goes down, if I make my goal, it goes up. I don't know what happened on November 5 because it doesn't behave like the rest of the pattern. Any ideas?

  • I don't know what could've happened, but once I noticed the opposite: My step goal dropped by about 30% although the previous day I exceeded the step goal significantly.

A question: What device do you use for step count? Do you have more than one?

  • Two devices double counting; I like that theory, but I don't think it's the cause. I just have a Garmin watch linked to the Connect app. My phone also tracks my steps, but it isn't connected to Garmin. I think you are not far. I'd tell that your watch might have automatically updated the firmware at that date (or perhaps just crashed and lost the original file holding the goal), and the goal was reset to the default value, which (if I remember well) is some 7000 steps, or so.

BTW, you can also set a fixed goal, and avoid having to cope with such problems.
