Adjusting lapdistance (and the laptime, and the rest) after an activity

First of all, I'm not talking about a corrupted/damaged file.

During races and enduranceruns my autolap is set on 1 km.  But sometimes I accidently press lap or stop on my watch.  Then I get for example at a certain moment a lap of 500m followed by laps of 1 km.  But those laps of 1 km don't start after excatly X km but after X,5 km.  I would like to see every km start after an exact rounded number of km.  In my excel-file where I keep my training I solved this partially.  But this assumes a constant pace and HR for every lap.  For example if I ran a km in 5' after I accidently pressed lap excel will add2'30" to my 500m lap.  But it might bepossible that I in reality ran the first 500m in 3'.  Is there a tool to fix this?

  • Isn't it easier to just prevent accidental lap button presses? Turn off lap button and add a hot key for lap like long press back button. Then you will not accidently mark laps.

  • I justed tested it.  The blocking of the lapbutton doesn't work when you use a workout.  And since I'm always using a workout...

  • True. During a workout the lap button can't be disabled since it is used for the workout.

If you are in a workout laps will be marked every time you move to the next step in a workout so it will not mark every 1 km.

  • It is probably easier to just use another service that do the 1 km lap calculations for you. I checked in Strava and I see data for every 1 km no matter the laps I've marked. I can also switch between the 1 km splits and the laps marked and see pace, HR and cadence data for each.

  • I don't know if you're a paying member on Strava, but I'm not and in my case I see either the laps my watch registered or the tempo (only to the second no 10th of a second) for each km (but no HR-data for that part).  Furthermore Strava doesn't show the maximum HR for a lap (atleast for a non-paying member).

  • Then try https://runalyze.com/
I use the free version and can recalculate the laps to whatever distance or time I want.

This is when I recalculated a workout to every 1 km.

I'm paying for Strava so I get access to more features.

  • For non-paying members, I thought strava always shows 1 km or 1 mile splits (based on your distance units setting). The laps from the device are only available to paying members.

Either way, you're right, strava doesn't show all the stats for generated splits or device laps anyway, like max hr.

I also use runalyze for custom laps. It's free and automatically syncs with your garmin account. Like e7andy said, you can set laps by custom distance or time. The cool thing is not all the laps have to be the same length, either.

One downside is that the cadence / stride length calculations are usually slightly different than Garmin's calculations. Hard to say which one is right or wrong though. For short laps the difference can be pretty dramatic.

  • I'm a non-paying member and I can see the laps from my device.

  • I've started with runalyze to.  I asked them about laptimes to the 10th of a second.  I have to uncheck 'laps to the full second' in the seconds.  I did this and uploaded an activity, but the laps were still in full seconds.  What's your experience with this?  I also noticed that the laps are always 1 km if you upload a GPX, but if you upload a TCX you can see your manual laps.

  • Why do you manually upload GPX or TCX as opposed to automatically syncing with your account? If you don’t want to sync, you can upload FIT files which should give you the best results (“Export Original” in Garmin Connect).

I unchecked the same setting, deleted and re-uploaded a recent run (by FIT file), and runalyze shows laps with 2 decimal places for seconds (although the 2nd place is always 0, so I suspect there’s only 1 significant decimal place.)

I'm a non-paying member and I can see the laps from my device.

Yeah, I don’t get it. I‘ve been with strava for years and:

    - the app has always shown “splits” (1 km/mile, generated by strava) for non-premium members. Only premium members get “workout details” (i.e. laps from device)

    - the website used to show both splits and laps for everyone, but now it only shows splits for non-premium members

I’m a premium member, but I can verify the above behavior for some of my connections who don’t have a membership. Years ago when I didn't have a membership, that's it worked for me, too.

But, I dug a bit further, and one of my non-premium connections has both laps and splits, but only on the website. He doesn’t press the Lap button, so his laps and splits are identical (1 km auto-laps from device and 1 km splits generated by strava.)

Idk, it’s weird. Maybe it’s something that’s grandfathered in.
