Garmin Tacx NEO Bike Smart Trainer miles not counting for Garmin Badges

Hello,

Why don't miles logged on a Garmin bike count towards Garmin badges?

Thanks,

  • I just got my NEO 2T only to find that rides from Zwift or Rouvy will not count towards badges... well no badges for me during the winter then. I get it they try to force people use their app, but i would rather use what i want...

The distance between the Edge, Tacx app, Zwift and other services will never be the same. It is because it is calculated differently.

I really do not understand why there should be difference in distance since all the virtual rides have "fixed" length Slight smile

  • A Garmin device WAS used.

It was used, but the activity was not recorded with it. As already told, you have to record the activity either with a Garmin device, or with a Garmin app (Tacx). If you prefer using Zwift, get your badges at Zwift. You can also use both apps (Tacx and Zwift) simultaneously, and do not need to sync Zwift to Garmin Connect at all.

The Edge isn't calculating the speed from the power like Zwift is doing. It will use the revolutions and the wheel size you've entered.

  • Are we still talking about indoor cycling on a smart trainer? Because i have not entered any wheel size anywhere... I get it that "dumb" trainers might have different results... but Smart trainers gather all the data ... even for the Edge/watches when you record the ride with them. There are no sensors on the bike which i have mounted... everything goes from the Neo 2T... so the results from Tacx/Zwift/Rouvy must be the same...

  • Even if there isn't any wheel the hub is still spinning. It is the exact same thing as with a dumb trainer with a wheel.

The different services calculates the speed from the power, but the Edge doesn't do that.

  • You are probably a Garmin employee trying to convince people they have a reason to do this... But they dont. Tacx training app (not EDGE) records a ride and it is counted towards the badges... Rouvy/Zwift rides = not counted towards badges. Those three apps use all data from the smart trainer the same way.... Can you see my point?

  • Tacx is a Garmin's app. Rouvy and Zwift are not. Garmin has no control over the way 3rd party apps calculate the distance, so only their own app is currently applicable. You simply need a Garmin app (Tacx) to get the badge. You can use both - Tacx and Zwift, if you wish.
