Garmin Tacx NEO Bike Smart Trainer miles not counting for Garmin Badges

Hello,

Why don't miles logged on a Garmin bike count towards Garmin badges?

Thanks,

  • Hi, did you use the Tacx app and/or a Garmin device (watch or Edge) to record and upload the ride? https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=6pECo6UIFn7ergw8kNmfu9

  • No, I use Zwift.  I have read how to circumvent by dual recording but that seems like a lot of work.

  • I hear what you're saying. I mean it's straightforward to do, but it means the spatial data in Garmin Connect (virtual position, distance, speed, and elevation) will be wrong..., and the steps to correct those (if they matter to you) is definitely added work.

Tbh I feel badges aren't worth much, so if I wanted the simplest possible choice I'd just do what you're probably already doing: link Zwift for automatic uploads to GC, forget about dual recording on a Garmin device, and forget about badges from indoor rides. (IIRC, originally indoor rides didn't qualify for badges anyhow.)

  • Of course Indoor rides count towards badges and challenges. I use Tacx, garmin sensors, and watch. No dual recording.

Sure, but the OP isn't. Zwift and no watch.

  • Are you assuming the OP doesn't have a garmin watch? I did not see that in the posts, hence I replied as I did.

"miles logged on a Garmin bike" is not saying no watch.

I get miles logged on my bike but I don't send it anywhere. I let the Tacx app send it all back to Connect.

  • No, I asked them if they used the Tacx app and/or a Garmin device for the activity, and they answered no, they use Zwift. See the first 3 posts.

  • Kyle J is correct I do not use a garmin recording device but I am on the $3K Tacx NEO Plus which is transmitting my data to Zwift as I ride....  I am not even sure how a watch would be useful for an indoor bike ride other than heart rate because you aren't moving or recording power with it.  So none of my miles recorded on my Tacx while using Zwift have ever counted towards anything - which is STUPID. And Garmin knows  this, I just hope one day they will allow these miles to count.

  • You connect the trainer to the watch or bike computer and log the rides as indoor rides. You can also use the Tacx app just like you use Zwift. Then you will get the miles counted to the badges.

Why Zwift doesn't count is because you must log the ride with a Garmin device or app. That is a requirement for the badges and it is clearly stated here: What Are Garmin Connect Badge Achievements? "A Garmin device must be used when recording an activity or completing a challenge."

  • That’s the frustration. A Garmin device WAS used. It was a Tacx NEO. I have the same issue with with my Tacx NEO 2T. I have a $1k+ Garmin trainer. I’m also linking my HR for the ride with my FR 955 watch and I have the premium Tacx subscription. I prefer to ride on the Strava app with friends/groups over the Tacx app.

If I dual log my workout with the edge computer or Tacx app it NEVER syncs up to my ride accurately.

I get this users frustration and when I’m logging a workout ON a Garmin device, I should get credit. Period.
