Do activities on connect.garmin.com show whether I was using a heart rate strap?

When looking at an activity on connect.garmin.com, can I tell if the heart rate data is from my watch or my heart rate strap? I recently realized that my heart rate strap is no longer working, and I am trying to find out which of my activities have data from the strap (before it died) and which have data from my watch (Forerunner 945). Thanks!

  • If it is a Garmin strap, then when it was connected, its picture is shown below the picture of your watch, on the right side of the activity page. I do not know whether it is the same case with 3rd party HRMs, though.

Otherwise, you can also use the DevTools of your browser while on the activity page, open one of the XHR streams with activity ID in its name, and check the sensors listed there:

  • Thanks for the answer! I'd heard I should see the heart rate strap displayed below the (945) device, but it isn't a Garmin strap and wasn't appearing. And your DevTools suggestion certainly wasn't for the faint of heart, but it worked for me. (I don't know if it'll help others, but I searched for "runPowerWindDataEnabled" once I was on the Network tab to get me in the general location. I could then switch to the Preview tab and expanded the metadataDTO and sensors branches.)

  • Another option that most people will find easier than using Chrome's DevTools, is to upload the fit file to https://www.fitfileviewer.com. It displays sensor information in the Device Info section of its viewer.
