October Weekend 40K Cycling Challenge

Can I get this badge with a FR255 and a stationary bike?  I guess I would have to manually input the distance?  Would I need any other sensors for power/cadence/speed etc in order to receive the badge?

Thanks

D

  • If you could manually enter the distance and it was accepted for the badge, then you would really only need to ride a couple of minutes.

I use a Garmin speed sensor and you need to input the wheel size into the watch, then the sensor feeds the rotations into the watch during the ride and the "distance" is calculated.

Works for me. Got the badge yesterday.

  • Thanks for the heads up.  Was wondering about this badge along with the indoor bike rides, 10 mile, 20 mile, etc.  Guess you need to have your own set up for those with wheel sensor, you can't use generic gym equipment.

  • I have a stationary bike that I use for the cycling badges but I use a sensor.
I purchased the Garmin Cadence Sensor 2 (which tracks pedal strokes per minute) from Amazon. The sensor comes with 3 different sized bands and attaches to the crank arm of your bike.
I select the 'Bike Indoor' activity and when I begin pedaling, the sensor connects to my Venu 2. After my ride is complete and the activity is saved, I enter the number of miles from my bike's display and Garmin does the rest.

I haven't had any issues with indoor cycling activities or acquiring the badges using this setup.

I've also used the cadence sensor on indoor bikes at my community gym. I haven't have any issues there either....as long I don't forget to retrieve my sensor from the crank arm before heading home. Slight smile

  • Oh, cool, so all I need is a cadence sensor for the pedal.  Curious, how does garmin get distance from pedal RPM?  You'd need tire diameter and tire RPM, no?

    Edit:

You entered the distance manually, sorry I missed that.
