Default home location

Why doesn't Connect default to my home location?

Looking at the forum and it's 10+ years since this issue was raised.

When is it being sorted?

Every, by which I mean every, app or web service known to man can ID a location online. Why not you?

Very very poor state of affairs.

  • It's not accurate and can be flakey at times, but it should at least find your general location based on your ISP & IP address, assuming you have the settings to allow location in your browser.

Most of the time it works for me, but sometimes it defaults to Garmin headquarters, Olathe KS.

  • Is there a reply from Garmin on this, I too find it very frustrating to be taken to the USA from UK everytime I create a course

  • Did you try what  suggested? Personally, I have the map always centered to my current location when I create a new course. And I am not in the USA.

  • Yes. It works on my new macbook. PC doesn't want to play despite having location on. Google can drop a pin on my front door, Strava too, Garmin seems to think it's Olanthe outside my door.

  • As in, all my devices have location turned on. Maybe it's windows? But I use chrome on both platforms so maybe it's google? Maybe it's Garmin. My 1030 struggles to sync when my phone is right next to it. Usually I have to plug it in the macbook, find the exact lead, not some random one and hope it gets recognised in G Express. (not a given). I got the 1030 direct from Garmin to say sorry for having two basketcase 520's that were comically useless.

  • Maybe it's windows?

Please re-read the post of , and follow the instructions he gave. I am on Windows and it works for me. If the settings in the browser is not enough to make it working, check out the privacy and location options in Windows settings. Also, using a VPN, an anonymizer, some anti-virus programs, or the incognito mode will prevent websites from localizing you.

  • I am using chrome on Mac and now have it working .. thank you

  • So I see several locked posts on this. I discovered in Chrome I had to change privacy settings to allow connect.garmin.com access to location. After making this change the course opens to my home city/town now. Go figure, multiple posts and years of no answers and it was that simple.

Not sure why no one else had posted this solution or Garmin support. Wait the second answer we already know.

Location by IP was made in 2023, few months ago, so this couldn't be an answer earlier, it used to move to yours courses position, so you had to create some, now it's by IP only.

  • Hi, I've been living with annoying behaviour of Garmin Connect Web for a while now. By default as soon as you have completed the import of a route in a remote location e.g I'm importing routes for a holiday in Tenerife, Connect web will return the focus of the map back to my home location in UK. I don't want it to do that! I want the map location to remain in the area that I'm planning routes. It's very annoying to keep entering the search of the area I'm planning for or dragging the map over to the area I'm researching / panning for. Can we please have a toggle to turn off the re-homing / cantering behaviour. Thanks
