Training Status from newer online cycling apps

Does anyone know if Trainign Status is going to be extended to accept include other plafforms like Xert, IndieVelo, MyWhoosh, etc?

I got the current list from here https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=VxKazDQ2mkAmDoQbJriEBA which is Zwift, Rouvy and Trainerroad.

Just finding the above link that included the list of apps took me hours, some of this garmin info about training metrics is incredibly difficult to find.

Only the named 3rd parties can tell you. They will have to make their platforms compatible to Garmin, and request the certification from Garmin. You may want to ask them whether they plan doing it.

However, you can have the Training Effect, Training Load, and hence the Training Status accounted for if you start an activity on your watch too - even if you do not save the activity at the end, to avoid having a duplicate, most of the metrics will be updated in real-time directly by your Garmin watch.

  • Hi, yeah it's not easy info to find, and harder to find *current* info, since it's continually evolving. Even that Garmin link you found is out of date -- it still mentions the requirement to dual-sync with an eligible Garmin device, however this was changed in March 2023-ish and now everything is calculated directly on Garmin's servers (reference GPLama: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfS3Dm41sVc).

As well it doesn't list Wahoo Systm (ex-Sufferfest) even though it's supported. (That however may be an intentional omission on Garmin's part...)

So the current list appears to be Zwift, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, Wahoo Systm (/Sufferfest), and of course Tacx (Garmin-owned).

In addition some users have found a workaround method for RGT: https://wahoox.forum.wahoofitness.com/t/rgt-workload-to-garmin-connect/18330/29

Adding other apps is a 2-way street -- it's not enough for apps to be compatible and request certification, Garmin also has to choose to allow them. I've seen comments scattered about the web (including that 2nd link) that Garmin may not be accepting additional apps at this time. And the workaround for RGT (Wahoo-owned) indicates that particular app is indeed compatible with Training Status, yet not authorized.

In any case, at the moment we can generally obtain a fuller set of data and metrics by directly uploading to Garmin Connect from a Garmin device, whereas syncing in from a supported 3rd-party app will have a lesser set. Dual-recording and manually merging the files (using Fit File Repair Tool) still appears to be the only way to reliably get all the available data and metrics (and "supports" a longer list of apps). Cheers!
